The third edition of The Baked Ham, a quarterly community speakers series, will take place Friday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion.
This series features two 30-minute presentations on divergent topics, seemingly unrelated.
The question-and-answer period will take place after both speakers have presented, encouraging the audience to make connections and conversation.
Individuals selected to present in this event are Susan Currie (Sackville), professor of biology, and Dr. David Hayden, (Halifax) a plastic surgeon.
Currie will speak about 'fish that live in trees,' describing several fascinating fish that breathe air. She recently returned from a field trip in Belize and will introduce the audience to a whacky mangrove fish that spends about half the time out of water.
Currie studies the physiology of stress at Mount A. She is particularly interested in stress in the aquatic environment and the strategies fish use to cope with environmental stress, such as high temperature and contaminants.
Hayden will speak about the peculiar world of cosmetic surgery, which is a lot more banal than one might think.
In addition to being a plastic surgeon, Hayden is a father of three, In his spare time, he moonlights as a music critic and art collector.
The Baked Ham is an entertaining and informative speakers' series. Organizers hope to create a casual and non-academic environment to share ideas and conversation on a variety of topics.
