A proposed rezoning for a Queens Road property that will see a local physician convert the existing home into a medical clinic was given the green light last month by town council.
The request from Dr. Graeme Stewart to rezone the property at 64 Queens Road from Urban Residential 2 to Institutional was given final approval during council's monthly meeting on April 14. Stewart plans to open his own medical office on the site.
"This will be a welcome addition to the community," said Coun. Virgil Hammock, liaison councillor for health care.
No objections were raised during the public hearing for the proposal on March 10, and council approved first and second reading to allow for the rezoning during a special meeting later that month.
The proposal meets all planning requirements and only drew one concern from a local resident, one that was repeated by town councillor Bruce Phinney during last month's public hearing. Phinney said his only concern was over the potential for traffic congestion along Queens Road if Stewart's clients park along the side of that street.
Stewart has indicated he will have ample parking in the rear of the property for his patients and a sign indicating parking is available in back.
The proposal calls for five parking spaces for clients and three for staff behind the home, exceeding the requirements under the zoning bylaw.
The house, owned by Allan and Mary Sears, will not undergo any significant exterior renovations for the new clinic.
