Sackville town council has approved several modifications to a seniors' housing development now under way on Charlotte Street.
Following a public hearing for the changes last Monday night, council okayed the changes to the development agreement that will see three multi-unit buildings constructed on the site at 66-74 Charlotte Street instead of four, reducing the number of units from 40 to 32. The buildings will also be set at different angles than what was originally proposed.
"The developer ran into soil stability issues . . . so, as a result he had to modify his plan," said Lori Bickford, a planner with the Tantramar District Planning Commission.
Bickford said developer Warren Weeks of T&W Holdings Ltd. has already started construction on the 10-unit building, which is located at the rear of the property and runs parallel to Charlotte Street. The other two buildings, which will be 11-unit dwellings similar to the one under construction without the garage attachments on the side, will run perpendicular to Charlotte.
Coun. Virgil Hammock said he was okay with approving the changes because it means an increase to the amount of green space on the property and a more appealing project.
"It will be more attractive than four buildings all in a line, so this is an improvement," he said.
