As the town continues to work towards its vision of a more sustainable community, the public is invited to take part in upcoming discussions on how to further that goal.
Tracey Wade, coordinator of the Sustainable Sackville plan, said now that a long-term vision has been developed and approved, the next step will be to set up task groups for a number of different sectors that will be focused on in the plan.
Each group will be tasked with creating goal statements for that particular sector, providing a plan on how to achieve sustainability in that area.
“We’ll need to look at where we are today, where we need to go and how do we get there,” said Wade.
Local residents are invited to provide their input by participating in one of a dozen task groups – built environment, economic development, energy, food, health and social services, learning, solid waste, recreation and leisure, transportation, water, air and land, municipal operations, and infrastructure.
The first task group, which will focus on infrastructure, will meet May 26 at town council chambers from 2-4 p.m. On May 28, discussions around energy will take place from 9:30-11 a.m., and built environment will be the focus from 1-2:30; both will take place in council chambers.
