Anyone looking for a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon can head out and join the Mount Allison Opera Workshop for its second annual opera tea fundraiser. The Tea will feature performances by members of the Opera Workshop and friends, and takes place in the faculty lounge of the Marjorie Young Bell Conservatory of Music, on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m.
The opera tea offers a program of excerpts from operas, including solo arias and ensemble numbers. Some of these excerpts will be presented in fully staged form at the usual Opera Workshop performances in February. But at the opera tea, the mood is more informal, with the emphasis on light-hearted music. Combined with a cup of tea and something sweet to eat, this promises to be a lovely afternoon.
The opera tea is a fundraising event for the annual Opera Workshop tour of high schools in the region, which will take place in April 2013. There is a small admission fee to the tea, but larger donations are welcomed.
The Opera Workshop’s first opera tea, held in January 2012, was highly successful and the performers are looking forward to presenting opera in this entertaining format again
