Visitors to a previous Owens Art Gallery open house view artwork under the microscope. PHOTO SUBMITTED
Area residents are invited to join the Owens Art Gallery staff today (Oct. 9) from 7-9 p.m. for Owens After Dark. This event is the backstage pass to the inner-workings of the gallery. Visitors will get to go behind the scenes to rarely viewed spots at the Owens where all the magic happens.
Venture downstairs to the painting vault and take a look at the 800 artworks that are stored here. Learn about various pieces within this collection from the most historical items to the newest contemporary Canadian artworks to be included within the acquisitions.
Take a tour of the fine art conservation laboratory and talk to the gallery’s fine art conservator, Jane Tisdale. Learn about elements of conservation from someone currently working in the field. Tisdale will be discussing caring for the collection and visitors will get a first hand look at works with conservation issues and some undergoing repairs.
Those in attendance will be able to create artwork of their own in the lobby, where there will be pin-back button making. This will be a chance to sit down, grab a cup of hot chocolate and be inspired by the gallery’s many exhibitions.
The Owens open house is a community event for all ages sponsored by the Friends of the Owens.
