SACKVILLE, N.B. – Local emergency services will join together next Saturday evening to put on a festive Parade of Lights for the community.

Sackville firefighters, RCMP, ambulance personnel, and public works crews will decorate their vehicles and ‘parade’ around town on Dec. 14 as they look to spread some holiday spirit to young and old alike.

Sackville Fire Chief Craig Bowser said one of his firefighters brought the idea to a recent meeting and the membership was quick to get on board to organize the event.

The aim of the parade, said Bowser, is to help “spread some Christmas Cheer while also letting people know that emergency services are working together over the holidays,” said Bowser

Kicking off at 6 p.m. at the fire station, the parade will make its way through various neighbourhoods around town, trying to cover as much area as possible.

The parade will head up Main Street over to Salem, then to Windymere and around Bowes back over to Salem, then to Charlotte Street up to Dorothy and Bernice, down Crossman Road, up York Street to Kirk Street, across Kirk to King, over to Pringle then Moffatt, then back onto Main Street, up Main to do a loop around the Drew Nursing Home, continue on Main and down Bridge Street to Weldon, then around to Squire Street and back onto Bridge, then up to Churchill, around to Tantramar Place and back on Bridge, then onto Devon Avenue and back onto Bridge, then return to the fire station.

Everyone is encouraged to head outside to see all of the emergency services crews drive by with their vehicles lit up with Christmas lights. And, of course, there will also be a special guest – Santa Claus.

Bowser said he hopes the parade will become an annual event, which could be expanded upon in future years.

It would be nice if they could collect Food Bank contributions along the way!
