Mount Allison University’s Garnet and Gold Musical Theatre society is set to present Disney’s classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast this week at Convocation Hall.
The Broadway hit musical features the animated film’s Academy Award winning score, by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, with some great new additional songs by Alan Menken and Tim Rice.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is the beloved story of the winsome Belle, who learns to look beyond appearances, and the seemingly fearsome Beast, who is destined to remain a monster unless he can learn to fall in love. This “tale as old as time” is set to be a truly magical experience for both young and old!
A group of over 100 Mount Allison students and local community members has been working hard to stage the musical under the direction of Karen Valanne, who is returning for a fourth year in a row as artistic director. The cast features Meghan McLean and Odum Abekah, as Belle and the Beast, Jess Sharp and Xavier Gould as the magical objects, Mrs. Potts and Lumiere, as well as over 50 other cast and ensemble, including a children’s chorus.
Beauty and the Beast runs from Jan. 23-25 at 8 p.m. at Convocation Hall on the Mount Allison campus, with a matinee performance on Saturday at 2 p.m.
A special reduced children's price is exclusively offered for the matinee performance on the 25th for kids under 15.
