Twenty-one young musicians from across the Maritimes gathered in Sackville recently to take part in the annual Celebration of Talent Concert. The recital featured performances by medal winners from the 2014 session of the Mount Allison Local Centre Examinations in Music.

Two local students took part in this event. Rebekah Barrett, medal winner for Grade 5 piano in the province of New Brunswick. Her teacher is Jen Alder. Christelinda Laureijs, medal winner for Grade 7 piano in the province of New Brunswick. Her teacher is Penelope Mark.

In late May and early June, six examiners administered over 225 exams in piano and voice, working in 14 locations throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Medals were awarded to students who received the highest provincial mark in each of the musical grades, with a minimum mark of 85 per cent. This year, 28 medals were awarded: 13 for New Brunswick, nine for Nova Scotia, and six for Prince Edward Island. Each medalist was invited to perform one piece at the Celebration of Talent Concert, which took place on Saturday, June 14, in the Marjorie Young Bell Conservatory of Music.
