Sackville CAO Barry Carroll is stepping down from his top post at town hall although officials are declining to comment as to why he is resigning.
"I think he's just ready to move on," said Mayor Pat Estabrooks following Tuesday's announcement. Estabrooks said she would prefer not to comment as to the reasons why Carroll has decided to leave Sackville, although she did thank the CAO for his work over the last three years.
"We wish him well and thank him for all he has done in the past three years," she said.
Carroll, himself, also chose not to comment when contacted Tuesday as to why he has submitted his resignation after he has just gotten settled at the helm of town hall.
He said he is satisfied with what he has been able to accomplish in the short time he has been here.
"I am pleased that, in working with a good management team and council, we were able to advance a host of important initiatives for the community," he said in a press release issued on Tuesday.
Carroll has played a key role in: helping fix the town's water woes; securing funding for new projects like the water tower; helping secure new businesses for the community such as Burnbrae Farms; working with the planning commission to see a new municipal plan approved; completing some internal reorganization; and spearheading the new municipal building/emergency services project.
Carroll, whose resignation is effective Aug. 7, said he will be taking up a position elsewhere but will miss this community he has called home for the past three years.
"I have made a lot of friends in Sackville in a very short time and will miss the community," he said.
Carroll was brought on as Sackville's CAO in July 2006, a year after town council ousted Barb Campbell from her duties at town hall. That move resulted in a wrongful dismissal lawsuit, which was brought to a civil trial. Three days into the hearing, however, both parties agreed to a settlement, of which the terms were never publicly disclosed. Campbell was appointed CAO in early 2000, replacing Dennis Egyedy who had been hired in the fall of 1998. Egyedy's resignation cost taxpayers a $47,500 severance package.
Since the early 1990s, the town has seen the departure of five CAOs, including Campbell, Egyedy, Alan Mitchell, Roy Brideau and Robert Cooling.
