Sackville is hoping to capitalize on the new water tower's visibility as a way to market the town to highway traffic.
Eric Mourant, Sackville's new chief administrative officer, said with the water tower anticipated to be completed later this spring, it's the perfect time to consider developing a logo for the municipality.
"The objective would be to develop and display an inspiring, motivating and energizing logo for the town," he said during council's monthly meeting last Monday night.
Mourant said that the water tower, when completed, will be visible for miles around, especially from the highway, and it's an opportune time to make the most out of the 'first impression' effect and put more emphasis on selling the town - a recommendation that stems from the community's strategic plan.
Town council agreed with Mourant and unanimously voted to go ahead and hire a graphic designer to develop a series of proposed logos by the end of next month. The new designs will come before the public for consideration before being approved by council.
The logo will also be used in the future on the town's flag, letterhead and signs.
"The graphic designers will have to do their research and it will need to be representative of the culture and heritage of the area," said Mourant.
Coun. Merrill Fullerton said he was pleased that the town is moving forward on this recommendation from the strategic plan.
"We have an identity crisis in this town," he said, noting the inconsistency with signage and marketing in the community.
