Salem Elementary School brought home first-place honours from School District 2's cross-country championship, held at Moncton's Centennial Park last Tuesday afternoon.
Young runners from Salem captured the win by accumulating 35 points for Grades 3-5 in racing events that saw about 300 runners compete. Bessborough and Evergreen Park tied for second with 18 points.
The Grade 3 and 4 girls' teams both came in first place in their respective divisions, while the Grade 3 boys placed second and the Grade 4 boys placed fourth.
Alice Torrance and Miriam Dysart finished first and second respectively in the Grade 3 girls' division.
Also competing for the Grade 3 girls were Alex Rhindress (sixth place), Ainsley Cunningham, and Meredith Hicks.
MacKenzie Allen took the Grade 4 girls title, while Molly Dysart, Lauren Shaw, and Kathryn Whittimore also brought home top five finishes.
Other Grade 4 girls' runners included Kimberly Cadman, Leah Wilton and Maeve Cockshutt.
In the boys' division, Lucas Cormier placed third in the Grade 3 division with Justin Vogels coming in fifth and Dashiel Edson also bringing in a top 10 finish. Also competing for the Grade 3 boys were Jacob Estabrooks, Joseph Caswell, Daniel Gaudreault, Conrad Shea, Jack Sheehan, Cohen Patterson and Nolan Dobbin.
In Grade 4, competitors included Tyler Long, Jack Estabrooks, Jared Prescott, Christian Duffy, Alex Hall, and Zachary Lloyd.
Grade 5 Marshview student Molli Ward also took top honours in her division.
