The town of Sackville will try and reach a settlement agreement tomorrow (Thursday) with the towns former CAO in an attempt to put an end to what was expected to be a lengthy civil trial in Monctons Court of Queens Bench.

In a special emergency council meeting called Wednesday night following the third day of testimony in the Town vs. Campbell case, town council unanimously approved a motion to authorize the town solicitor to settle the case based on the agreed terms discussed in a prior committee-of-the-whole meeting.

Although Mayor Jamie Smith wasnt prepared at the council meeting to release the reasons behind the towns decision to settle because he said the matter was still before the courts, he said that information could be known tomorrow if an agreement is reached.

Both parties began negotiations Wednesday afternoon after Justice Richard Bell, in an unusual move, suggested both parties consider speaking with the settlement judge available at the court.
