Sackville residents will soon notice the town's tourism directional signs are getting a fresh new look.
Coun. Joyce O'Neil, liaison councillor for the tourism department, told council during its monthly meeting last Monday night that modifications will be made early on in the new year to the way-finding signage that was installed throughout the community last summer.
O'Neil said the old signs will be taken down and new graphics will be adhered to the panels, which will feature simple white lettering on a dark background.
Earlier this year, Sackville's director of tourism and economic development Warren Maddox said the town's directional signs (which point visitors to a number of tourist attractions in the area) were ineffective and would need a complete makeover.
He pointed out that the dark type on the lighter background made the signs hard to read and the light serif font that was used should have instead been non-serif and bold.
He said with a redesign, the new signs, which direct tourists to local art galleries, museums and more, would hopefully stand out and be much more legible.
O'Neil said a test panel was installed earlier this fall and the new signs were found to provide much greater visibility and readability to traffic.
