The driver of a tractor trailer that rolled over on the highway near Sackville last Thursday morning was fortunate to walk away from the accident with only minor injuries.
"Luckily the driver was able to come away with non-life threatening injuries," said Sgt. Harry Brown of District 4 RCMP.
Brown said the truck, carrying a load of paper products, was traveling along the eastbound lane of the Trans Canada Highway near Sackville, between the Walker Road exit and Main Street exit, when the driver became distracted and the vehicle overturned and rolled onto its roof into the ditch.
Sackville fire and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene, where the driver was able to exit his vehicle on his own and no major damage was caused.
Although there was a small amount of fuel that leaked out of the truck's gas tank following the roll-over, the accident "wasn't as serious as we had first thought," said Brown.
"Initially, we thought there were dangerous goods in the truck . . . so as per our policy, we called the fire department and the Department of Environment."
Members of the fire department were able to soak up the fuel with peat moss material and then environment officials tested the soil for contamination. The truck was towed from the site later on that day.
Road or weather conditions were not believed to play a factor in the accident, and no charges are expected to be laid.
