A 29-year-old Sackville man is facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident last month that left a woman with serious injuries.

Sgt. Paul Ouellette of the Sackville RCMP said the man was arrested last Wednesday (March 17) after police executed a search warrant and seized the vehicle believed to be involved in the accident. He was questioned and later released and will appear in Moncton Provincial Court on May 4 on several charges, including failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

"We did receive information from the public that was very helpful to us," said Ouellette.

The RCMP have been searching for answers for more than a month into the hit-and-run incident, in which a 21-year-old female Mount Allison University student was struck by a vehicle while she was walking northbound on Main Street in front of Sassy's Convenience store on the night of Feb. 1.

The student sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Moncton City Hospital.

The driver left the scene of the accident and police have been asking for witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.

Ouellette said it has yet to be determined whether alcohol was a factor in the hit-and-run collision but the investigation is ongoing.
