BATHURST, N.B. – A candlelight vigil tomorrow evening will mark the fifth anniversary of a horrific crash that took the lives of a teacher and seven teenaged boys from the Bathurst High School Phantoms basketball team.
The vigil will be held at the site of a memorial on Highway 8, near route 11 in northern New Brunswick, that was created in the aftermath of the tragedy.
The memorial has become a permanent reminder of the eight lives that were lost on Jan. 12, 2008: Javier Acevedo, 17, Codey Branch, 17, Nathan Cleland, 17, Justin Cormier, 17, Daniel Hains, 17, Nikki Kelly, 15, Nicholas Quinn, 16 and Beth Lord.
Family and friends and the community are welcome to attend this quiet, respectful remembrance of the lives lost five years ago. The gathering begins at dusk on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, with the lighting of candles, which will continue to burn into the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 12.
