FREDERICTON, N.B. – The CANRISK Diabetes Questionnaire is now available to help New Brunswickers identify their risk of having pre-diabetes or Type 2 diabetes.
The Public Health Agency of Canada developed CANRISK. The Department of Health worked with this agency to offer the questionnaire on the department's website. The questionnaire is mainly for adults between 45 to 74, but it may also be used for younger groups in high-risk populations. CANRISK users will be asked a series of questions about important risk factors for diabetes. The answers are completely confidential and are meant to help persons better understand their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. The online tool also offers information about the disease as well as helpful links. In 2011, the provincial government released a comprehensive diabetes strategy that focuses on prevention, detection and management of the disease.
