A new bylaw that will lay out a set of guidelines to more clearly define the role of Sackville’s chief administrative officer is expected to be introduced at town council’s next monthly meeting.
Coun. Margaret Tusz-King said a draft format of the CAO bylaw has been presented to the town’s bylaw committee, who is reviewing the document before presenting it to the municipality’s lawyer for approval.
“It will be reviewed by the solicitor to ensure it’s substantial and valid before bringing it forward (to council),” said Tusz-King.
If the bylaw passes its legal inspection, first reading of the new legislation could come forward at the July 12 council meeting.
The CAO bylaw, a clear priority in the community’s recently-developed strategic plan, will provide a detailed position description that will explain the specific roles and responsibilities of the mayor and council and their connection with the chief administrative officer.
The document is expected to help the town recruit and retain a long-term CAO while also ensuring a productive relationship between town councillors and their top staff member
