SACKVILLE, N.B. – Sikniktuk Mi'kmaq Rights Coalition/Elsipogtog Idle No More are holding a "Justice For All" information traffic detour at exit 504 in Sackville today, which began at 10 a.m.
The event is being held to bring attention to the disappearance of Mount Allison University student Chris Metallic, a member of Listuguj First Nation in Quebec, who has been missing since the early-morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 25, and to protest several pieces of federal legislation, including Bill C-38, Bill C-45 and the Indian Act.
A Facebook message providing information on the event states: “To honour our ancestors and ourselves, survivors of colonization, we ask you to join us in solidarity with the "Idle No More - Global Day of Action” in Sackville, N.B., on the Trans-Canada Highway Exit 504 E on Monday Jan. 28, 2013.
“We will begin the day at 10 a.m. with an opening prayer and Mi'kmaq Flag raising ceremony. We will drum, chant, sing, and pray. We will have special guest speakers from various social justice groups and unions, musicians and will also deliver announcements requesting information about the whereabouts of our missing brother Chris Metallic.
“We will gather at the United Church Conference Centre at 12 noon to offer prayers of thanks to all the volunteers who have and continue to support the Metallic Family in their search for their missing son Chris Metallic.
“We understand the level of frustration, confusion and anger that people are feeling toward all of this injustice, however, we ask you kindly, please come with an open, honest, loving, respectful, humble heart. We must remember to conduct ourselves peacefully.”
