FREDERICTON, N.B. – NB Power staff working out of the Sackville and Shediac operating centres will soon be relocated to the Bouctouche and Moncton centres.
The move is being implemented to improve the efficiency and productivity of teams assigned to customers in the region, according to NB Power.
“Shediac and Sackville will remain well-covered and well-protected like every other area of the province,” said Sherry Thomson, vice-president responsible for customer service. “This decision was made after an extensive province-wide review of all our operations work. The goal is to save time and money by relocating staff to centres that are closer to the majority of their work.”
Work on the relocation will start immediately. No NB Power employees will lose their jobs as a result of these changes, but buildings occupied by staff in Shediac and Sackville will eventually be put up for sale.
Relocating staff to centres that are closer to the distribution of their work will result in considerable savings while ensuring a high quality of service. NB Power is making changes like this around the province to better match the size and location of crews with recent changes to work requirements generated by the shifting demographics of the province, especially those in southeastern New Brunswick.
“The staff relocations are born out of a need to be more efficient, and reduce overall expenses in the utility,” said Gaëtan Thomas, president and chief executive officer of NB Power. “It is these efforts at reducing costs and reducing layers of management that have allowed us to sustain a three-year rate freeze while continuing to be among the safest and most reliable utilities in North America.”
