Nominations open for energy efficiency awards

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The call for nominations for the fifth annual Premier's Awards for Energy Efficiency opens today and closes Friday, March 15.

Efficiency NB created the awards to recognize the foremost examples of commitment and innovation in energy efficiency in the province. Premier David Alward will present the awards in Fredericton on May 9.

“Innovative energy solutions are an important part of our plan to rebuild New Brunswick's economy and strengthen our environment,” said Alward. “Individuals, businesses, and communities are investing locally in energy efficiency projects and are not only enjoying lower energy costs but are decreasing our impact on the environment by lowering greenhouse gas emissions. These are stories worth celebrating.”

The public and the business community are encouraged to nominate New Brunswick individuals, companies, organizations or communities for one or more of the following awards:

● Energy efficiency champion - commercial sector;

● Energy efficiency champion - industrial sector;

● Energy efficiency champion - small and medium industrial sector;

● Energy efficiency champion - residential sector;

● Energy efficiency champion - individual; and

● Outstanding energy efficiency achievement - community award.

A description of each award, along with information about the nomination process, is on Efficiency NB's website (www.efficiencynb.ca).

The awards are fully supported through contributions by presenting sponsor NB Power and by award sponsors, MCW Maricor, Irving Forest Services, T4G, Source Atlantic, Atlantica Centre for Energy, and Irving Oil Ltd.

Efficiency NB will select award recipients for an additional six categories from among its program participants.
