Sackville man sentenced to five years in jail for sexual assaults

A Sackville man has been sentenced to a total of nearly five years in jail in connection with three sexual assaults in the town, dating back to 2009 and 2010.

Thirty-one-year-old Horace Napoleon Karnes had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault, as well as to two counts of obstructing justice.

Horace Karnes appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on Monday, Sept.23 for sentencing. He received four years in jail for two of the sexual assaults, and six months for the third count. He received four months in jail for the two counts of obstructing justice.

He was also sentenced to nine months in jail for being unlawfully in a dwelling and three months for failing to comply with an undertaking, both of which will be served concurrently with his other sentences.

He will be on probation for two years following his sentence, and has been added to the national sex offender registry for life.
