SACKVILLE, N.B. – Sackville, Port Elgin and Dorchester signed on to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. The PCP is a framework consisting of five steps or “milestones” to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from community and municipal operations.
With the help of EOS Eco-Energy, all three communities recently completed Milestone One, which involved an inventory of GHG emissions for the baseline year 2011. The municipal inventory includes data on the amount of energy used in town-owned facilities and operations such as buildings, street lighting, water and wastewater treatment, municipal vehicles and solid waste. The community inventory includes data from institutions, businesses, industry, transportation and residential waste.
EOS Eco-Energy and the municipalities of Sackville, Port Elgin and Dorchester recently announced the completion of milestone one on the path to reducing GHG emissions. The next milestone is to set reduction targets for both community and municipal operations, followed by a detailed action plan on how to achieve the targets.
