Although the streets are virtually empty in this photo from a previous Sappyfest, taken in the morning, the venue is packed during the various live performances that are featured each year.

SACKVILLE, N.B. – Everything is looking up for SappyFest and this year’s edition of the festival. Fundraising goals have been met, tickets are selling briskly and the SappyForever photo book is hot off the press.

To celebrate, SappyFest is presenting a one-day mini festival this Saturday at Thunder and Lightning. The event will start at noon, where people can drop in, pick up a copy of SappyForever and enjoy an exhibit featuring some of the best photos from the book.

The music will start at 4 p.m. with local sweetheart Julie Doiron and Jon Mckiel, and continuing at 8 p.m. with the paperboy of broken hearts, Lucas Hicks and the legendary Shotgun Jimmie.

Organizers see this event as a thank you to the town of Sackville and all of those who have helped to shape the festival by buying a book and showing their support over the years. The show will also be hitting the road for a seven-city, cross-country tour to promote the cause and the festival.

Clocking in at 252 pages, SappyForever is a retrospective tome that includes photos, essays, and other memories from SappyFest’s eight-year history in Sackville, N.B. It is a testament to the people of Sackville that this festival continues to thrive in this small town.
