SACKVILLE, N.B. – Sackville’s town councillors are switching up their duties.

Mayor Bob Berry announced last week that he has appointed members of council to their new liaison roles, as they hit the halfway mark of their four-year term.

The councillors are usually switched around every year or two, giving each an opportunity to serve as liaison for several departments during their four-year term. The mayor, as he did when this council was first elected in 2012, has appointed two councillors to each portfolio, with some maintaining some of their current roles and others taking on new ones.

The finance department liaisons will be councillors Shawn Mesheau and Mike Tower.

Mesheau will also take on the role of liaison for recreation programs and events alongside councillor Bruce Phinney; while Tower will also serve as liaison councillor for tourism and business development along with councillor Ron Corbett.

Liaison for public properties and facilities will be Phinney and councillor Ron Aiken.

Public safety roles will be taken on by councillor Margaret Tusz-King and Deputy Mayor Joyce O’Neil.

The policy and bylaw duties will be filled by councillors Bill Evans and Ron Corbett. Evans will also serve on the personnel committee along with Deputy Mayor O’Neil. The sustainability committee will be served by councillors Aiken and Tusz-King.

The mayor also appointed councillors to a number of other roles on boards and committees, including the heritage board (Corbett), town/Mount A (Berry/Tusz-King), Southeast Regional Serve Commission (Berry, O’Neil), Sports Wall of Fame (Mesheau/Evans), Waterfowl Park (Aiken/Phinney), and the Regional Service Commission 7 planning (Tower).

Last Monday also saw Joyce O’Neil nominated unanimously by her fellow colleagues once again to fill the Deputy Mayor role for another term.

“I’d like to thank my fellow councillors for giving me another term,” said O’Neil. “I will do my utmost to continue to support the council and the staff as I continue on in this role.”
