The downtown park is ready to re-open, just in time for the long weekend.
Jamie Burke, Sackville's senior manager of corporate projects, said the "front section" of the park facing Main Street – which includes the playground, the new splash pad and the bandstand area as well as the public washrooms inside the new building – will be open to the public as of 4 p.m. this afternoon.
Burke said although there's a few details still be worked on at the park as part of the overall makeover, it was decided to open the part of the park that was ready so that residents and visitors could enjoy the new facility during the last few weeks of summer.
He said the barrier fence that is now in place along Main Street will be moved back to the rear side of the new multi-purpose building, as there is still interior work being done in the building and the tennis/basketball courts have yet to be lined so they will not be available for public use this weekend. The public washrooms in the building will be open, however.
Burke said when the park makeover is complete, including finalizing the landscaping and the striping of the courts, the town will hold an official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate.
