Final figures have yet to be put together but the town of Sackville is expecting to hold the line on the municipal tax rate for 2009.
Sackville's treasurer Michael Beal said the town's financial staff has been meeting with department heads over the past couple months to draw up a preliminary draft of next year's operational budget.
"There could be a number of changes before the final draft," said Beal during council's regular meeting last Monday night. "But as long as there's a four to five per cent (property) assessment increase and no huge cost hikes, we should be okay."
Beal said the town is still awaiting information from the province on the tax base, assessment costs and unconditional grant figures before proceeding with putting the final touches on the budget. Those are expected within the next week or so.
"It should be ready by the December council meeting," said Sackville CAO Barry Carroll, "provided that the necessary information is received by the province in a timely fashion in regards to assessments and unconditional grants."
