A local developer will make another attempt to get his seniors housing project off the ground in the community.
Warren Weeks of T&W Holdings Ltd. will bring a new proposal back to the table at an upcoming council meeting for a cluster of senior townhouses on Charlotte Street, this time requesting twice the number of units he originally applied for in his application three years ago.
Weeks' original proposal was given the green light by the town council of the day but the developer cancelled his plans shortly after, citing what he called "unreasonable demands" from the planning commission.
Tracey Wade, planner with the Tantramar Planning District Commission, explained that although the developer was given approval for his housing project back in 2006, he is now requesting that his first development agreement be repealed and will re-apply with a newly-revised proposal.
Wade said the developer has since purchased an adjacent lot to the Charlotte Street property and plans to build more units on the site.
"He plans to construct 40 single-storey rental units targeted to seniors," Wade told members of town council Monday night.
Weeks' original proposal would have seen up to 20 units built to accommodate seniors in Sackville.
The units, which were to measure approximately 1,330 square feet each, were designed with plenty of living space and natural light, featuring an open concept, with two bedrooms and a laundry area.
The developer also had future plans for a 15-lot subdivision on the property in behind the proposed row houses.
The public hearing for Weeks' latest proposal will be held on April 14 at 7 p.m. at Sackville town hall during council's monthly meeting
