Renaissance Sackville will have control of its own operating and project funding this year.
In a move by the town last week, Renaissance was granted greater control over its budget, including being able to approve funds for community projects without pre-approval from council.
"This is a significant change in the operation of Renaissance," said Coun. Merrill Fullerton during council's monthly meeting March 9.

In a move by the town last week, Renaissance was granted greater control over its budget, including being able to approve funds for community projects without pre-approval from council.
"This is a significant change in the operation of Renaissance," said Coun. Merrill Fullerton during council's monthly meeting March 9.
Fullerton said funding requests will no longer need to come before council although town officials will be asking for regular reports from Renaissance on the applications received and the projects which have been sponsored.
Renaissance will also need to provide council with a detailed description of the criteria on which applications will be considered for funding.
Renaissance Sackville is a town-sponsored, volunteer-based organization focused on community development. It offers modest seed funding and limited administrative support to new community initiatives that aim to enhance the town's quality of life.
Coun. John Higham said council has faith in the Renaissance board's professional discretion to select suitable proposals to receive funding. A quarterly report will also ensure the organization is still accountable for their decisions, he noted.
