The following message was issued by Health Minister Hugh Flemming to recognize May 25-31 as Emergency Medical Services Week in New Brunswick:
“For many residents, health care is one of the most important and visible ways government touches their lives. In an emergency, it's often the emergency medical services staff who are the first point of contact.
“Our government recognizes and appreciates the work emergency medical service teams do in our province every day. They are dedicated workers providing timely, life-saving care to those in need.
“Ambulance New Brunswick has a team of more than 1,000 highly-skilled emergency medical dispatchers, paramedics and flight nurses who respond to nearly 100,000 calls for help each year. We have some of the best-trained emergency medical services professional in the country. These employees operate a fleet of 134 ambulances in about 80 ambulance stations and posts situated throughout our province, making sure New Brunswickers receive timely access to emergency care.
“With the theme Our family caring for yours, Ambulance New Brunswick organizes different activities across the province to celebrate our emergency services workers and to highlight their important contribution to our community.
“I invite every New Brunswicker to join me in recognizing the dedication and excellent work of our emergency medical services professionals.”
