The Tantramar Titans mens and womens team will return to the Aitken Centre in Fredericton this Saturday with the hope of bringing home the provincial championship banners.

The womens team defeated Southern Victoria Vikettes from Perth-Andover 78-44 in the semi final on Friday night. The Vikettes did a great job in the first half defending the inside game but the Titans let loose with a volley of outside shots including eight from beyond the three-point arc.

Leah Ward led the scoring with 25 points, Danielle Trenholm had 18, Kaylee Atkins and Jenny Robinson each added seven, and Skye Babineau chipped in with five points.

In Saturdays final, the Titans took on Rothesay, the second seed from the Southwestern Conference. The game stayed close throughout the first three quarters with the Titans holding on to a slim lead. With eight minutes left in the game, the Red Hawks took over and pulled ahead by eight points. However the Titans did not fold, pouring it on both offensively and defensively.

The Titans hit key shots, forced turnovers and controlled the boards, allowing them to retake the lead and finish with a decisive 71-60 victory. Trenholm and Ward each hit for 19 points. Brittany Jones added 12 points, Laura Sloan and Robinson finished with nine and eight points respectively.

This will be the fifth trip to the Aitken Centre in six years for the Titans and their coach Mark Bohan, as they once again take on the Carleton North Stars for the provincial AA title Saturday.

The Titans men team played two very tough games en route to a berth in the provincial final. On Friday evening, the Titans rolled over the Southern Victoria Vikings 103-49. Marc LeBlanc led the scorers with 23 points, Stephen Bohan and Mike Purdy chipped in 15 points, Andrew Steeves had 14 points, Scott Walton added eight, Calum Hardie had seven and Jacob Strang finished with five.

Saturdays final against Carleton North proved to be a very physical match. The aggressive Stars made it very difficult for the Titans to pull away. But as they have done all year, teamwork, relentless defense, and pinpoint passing prevailed as they came out with a 78-65 victory.

As a testament to their teamwork, five players were in double figures - Scott McDougall had 16 points, Bohan had 15 , LeBlanc had 14 points, Steeves 13 points, Strang 12 points and Tyler Parson had six.

The Titans will take on the Woodstock Thunder in their fourth Aitken Centre appearance in six years, the first for coaches Andrew Stanley and Tanya Becker. Game time is 3 p.m.
