Port Elgin mini boys win provincial tournament

The Port Elgin mini boys basketball team was victorious over the weekend when they hosted the Mini Boys A Division, Tier 2 provincial championship at Port Elgin Regional School.

The Port Elgin team, coached by Mike Campbell, swept all of their round-robin games; beating Canterbury by a score of 64-45; trouncing the team from South Victoria (from Perth-Andover) 70-14; and winning 54-30 over the Fundy team from St. George.

The Port Elgin mini boys basketball team was victorious over the weekend when they hosted the Mini Boys A Division, Tier 2 provincial championship at Port Elgin Regional School.

The Port Elgin team, coached by Mike Campbell, swept all of their round-robin games; beating Canterbury by a score of 64-45; trouncing the team from South Victoria (from Perth-Andover) 70-14; and winning 54-30 over the Fundy team from St. George.

In the championship game, the host team defeated Canterbury by a score of 51-36, winning the gold medal and banner in their home turf. Port Elgin team members include: Sam Alward, Tylor Allen, Josiah Becker, Nevin Becker, Nicholas Butcher, MacKenzie Campbell, Tomas Campbell, Evan Davis, Ray Hepditch and Wesley Lane. Top scorers in the championship game for Port Elgin were MacKenzie Campbell with 20, while Wesley Lane and Nevin Becker each added 12 points.

Lane and Becker were chosen to the tournament all-star team and Campbell was chosen tournament MVP.

The Port Elgin mini girls will head off to Hillsborough this weekend for their provincial championship tournament, while the bantam girls will be in Florenceville for their year-end championships.
