Past and present players from the Marshview Middle School girls soccer program gathered at the high school soccer field recently for a reunion photograph.

In 2002, the girls captured the District 2 Middle School Championship for the first time and for the next four years they successfully defended this title.

The team saw 10 sets of sisters (Bliss, Shaw, Mccumber, Estabrooks and Estabrooks, Coughlin, Thomas, MacIsaac, Hemple and Anthonisen) wear the Marshview jersey and carry home the trophy.

All seasons combined, the girls were only defeated four times in the round robin play and keepers Gillian Coughlin (2002, 2003), Sydney Bliss (2004), Marya Peters (2005, 2006), Chloe MacIsaac (2006) stopped all but an average of three shots per season.

In addition, during the summer seasons various combinations for these girls were summer league champions as well.

Many of the players have gone on to the high school teams and several of the older girls now help coach and referee during the summer soccer season.

The local season has begun for the traveling teams and while most of the traveling teams have filled their rosters, there are still a few openings on the girls U12, U14 and U16 teams. No experience is necessary just the interest to learn.

Soccer provides an excellent opportunity to improve fitness, be with friends and the travel is mostly within the greater Moncton area with the occasional trip to Bouctouche and if numbers permit, a fabulous weekend tournament in New Minas.

The mini program will still accept registrations up to the start up date. If youd like to play this or any level please pick up your form at school or the department of recreation.

The association is also looking for coaches. Please contact Ross Thomas if you might have some interest in that area.

Missing from the photograph are Becky Smith, Leanne ORielly, Rosanna Hemple, Maddy Anthonisen, Kristin Doncaster and Gabrielle Dellaporta.
