Local mini boys basketball Titans capture bronze at provincials

The Sackville mini boys basketball Titans came home with a bronze medal after the weekend tournament held in Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B. The tournament consisted of the seven best AA teams in the province.

Saturday morning the Titans came from behind at half and defeated the home team River Valley 44-30. Zachary Bowles was game MVP for the Titans.

The Sackville mini boys basketball Titans came home with a bronze medal after the weekend tournament held in Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B. The tournament consisted of the seven best AA teams in the province.

Saturday morning the Titans came from behind at half and defeated the home team River Valley 44-30. Zachary Bowles was game MVP for the Titans.

Saturday afternoon the Titans were humbled by the eventual provincial champions Woodstock 44-16. Woodstock has had an undefeated season and easily beat all four opponents by an average of 30 points. Dylan Cormier was MVP for the Titans.

Sunday morning the Titans faced the Miramichi Tommies, needing the win to advance to the bronze medal game. They rose to the occasion beating the Tommies 51-21. Jonathon Swanson was MVP.

In the bronze medal match, the Titans faced St. Stephen. The Titans rabid fans helped carry the Titans to a resounding 54-31 victory. Zachary Grant won the Titans' MVP for his amazing defense.

Cormier was named to the tournament all-star team and scored a team best 57 points over the tournament.

Bowles dumped in 30 points while Swanson chipped in 28 points. Grant was next in scoring but really shone in setting up his teammates with assists.

While every player on the Titans scored during the weekend, the amazing story is their tenacious defense. Every player stepped up their game to protect the key, steal the ball, and frustrate their opponent.

The other team members include Alex Carter, Chris Cho, Keegan Higham, Mason Jones, Matthew Kaye, Marshall Stewart, Dalton Thompson, and James Wilmot. The Titans showed class and heart, outworking their opponents every shift.

Deadline for sports submissions is Monday at 1 p.m.
