Meghan Dickie of the basketball Mounties, and Mitch Peters of the swim team have been selected as Mount Allison's athletes of the month for February.

A Miramichi, N.B. resident, Dickie was recognized for her outstanding play in six victories over various opponents throughout the month of February.

Per game, she averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one blocked shot, to lead the Mounties to a third-place ranking with 15 wins and six losses.

A past Mountie of the week, Dickie is a former soccer and basketball MVP and all-star with ABU in 2008 and 2009, and prior to that was the school athlete of the year at Miramichi Valley High School where she played four years with coaches Jim Watters and Rick Stewart.

Dickie is currently enrolled in third-year arts, with future plans to pursue a career in teaching.

Swimmer Mitchell Peters, also a past November Mountie of the month, put in a four-medal performance at the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) championships in Prince Edward Island. He clinched two gold medals in the 100 and 200 metre free races, a silver in the 100 metre free, and a bronze as an anchor in the 800 metre free relay.

In his gold-medal 200 m free swim, Peters made the CIS national standards, qualified for the senior nationals, and broke his own school record. He also made the CIS standard for the 400 m free, dropping 12 seconds off his personal best time and breaking his own university record again. In the silver-medal swim, Peters broke the 100 free Mount Allison record and made the CIS standard by a full second.

These three performances resulted in Peters being named a three-time AUS all-star this season. His results placed him as the second best male swimmer at the meet, and gave him the opportunity to represent Mount A and the AUS at the CIS national championships, recently held at the University of Toronto from Feb. 18-21.

It had been five years since a Mount Allison swimmer qualified for the CIS championships and at least 20 years since a Mountie was represented in the freestyle events.

A resident of Sackville, Peters is a former provincial record holder from Tantramar Regional High School, and a past eight-time MVP with the Sackville Swim Club, coached by his father and current Mounties' coach John Peters.

He is also an all-star with Mount A's two-time championship men's Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association's cross-country team, a former eight-time provincial all-star swimmer, and a past 2001 and 2009 Canada Games competitor.

Last year's rookie of the year at Mount Allison, Peters is currently enrolled in second-year arts and majors in archaeology.

Other nominees this month were: Allison Settle with the volleyball Mounties, and Jenna Briggs of the hockey Mounties.
