The Sackville Tribune Post

Kelly Jeffrey has earned the right to become the permanent head coach of the Mount Allison Mounties following a surprise season during which he led the team to the playoffs and is now in the process of taking the Mounties to the next level by launching a cross-Canada recruiting campaign.
Jeffrey stepped into the acting position in July when former coach Steve LaLonde resigned to take a position in Iowa. A nation-wide campaign to find a permanent boss of the squad was held with seven applicants participating.
In making the announcement, athletic director Jack Drover stressed Jeffrey had received the full support of his players and coaches and said, “I am confident that Mountie football will be well served with Kelly Jeffrey as head coach.”
Jeffrey was obviously pleased with the appointment and said he and his staff have already begun the task of putting together a successful program. Prospective players from across the country are being contacted daily by coaches Peter Estabrooks, Kevin Artichuk, Pat LePain and Jeffrey, as well as many of the current players. He says they are concentrating the efforts on somne big linemen and linebackers as well as depth for all positions.
Gary Ross, three-time All Canadian and academic All-Canadian, feels equally optimistic about the future of the Mounties and reflects the feeling of his teammates when he says “Kelly Jeffrey being named the head coach is a very good thing for the Mount Allison football program.”
“He is a great coach we all love to play for and he is a man I have come to respect greatly and am excited to move forward with him at the helm.”
Jeffrey, the 36-year-old father of one child, is a native of Oregon and quareterbacked Southern Oregon University for three seasons and began his coaching career the following season at Dickinson State.
He held several positions including that of head coach of Mayville State in North Dakota for four seasons and special teams coordinator.
He served under coach LaLonde for a season with the Mounties, handling quarterbacks and special teams.
