Court finds town of Sackville not guilty in water violation charge print this article
BY KATIE TOWER
The Sackville Tribune Post

The town of Sackville has been found not guilty of violating New Brunswick's Clean Environment Act.

Judge Pierre Arsenault dismissed the charge against the town following a trial in Moncton provincial court on Nov. 4.

The charge related to a water main break that occurred on Bridge Street on April 25, 2007. Following the break, two boil orders were put in place, including one that followed the discovery the chlorination system at the water treatment plant had malfunctioned. The Crown alleged the town was required to contact the Department of Health as a result of the water main break; the town entered a not-guilty plea back in February of this year.

"We would like to advise the public that all staff is very conscious and aware of the necessary steps required to ensure that the residents of Sackville have clean, safe drinking water," said Mayor Pat Estabrooks.

Estabrooks said the town is very pleased with the outcome of the court case and wishes to commend public works staff George Woodburn, Barry Hicks and the rest of the crew for their continuous efforts.
