Performers’ Theatre Company announces first play for 2018 season

On Golden Pond to open July 3

SACKVILLE, N.B. – It takes some time to find the right plays for a season of theatre.

It’s not just the time it takes to read a variety of plays to find the ‘one’, but also determining if the staging requirements and theme are suitable. Whether period costuming will be required, and will the number needed for the cast be possible to find?

These things and more must be considered and Performers’ Theatre Company has been in this process since last year in determining the plays for their 2018 season.

It has taken a little longer than usual to find the right fit, but it’s now with pleasure they announce that On Golden Pond by Earnest Thompson has been chosen to open their season on July 3 and run until July 8.

ged from Nov 7-11 but at the time of printing a play has yet to be finalized.

On Golden Pond is a familiar story to many people due to the movie that was released in the 1980s with a stellar cast that included Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn and Jane Fonda. It ended up winning three academy awards and was nominated for a further seven.

On Golden Pond tells the story of any elderly couple spending what might be their final summer at their cottage by the lake and the interaction that takes place between them, their daughter and her boyfriend’s son.

A touching and humourous story that approaches issues of family relationships and aging with unwavering honesty, it has been entertaining audiences for over 35 years on stages all over the world.

Auditions for the show will take place April 15 starting at 2 p.m. The roles available include – three males (one in his 80s and two aged 30s-40s), one boy (10-12 years) and two women (one in her 70s-80s and one in her 30s-40s). Anyone interested in any of these roles is asked to phone 506-536-1264 to get more information and find out how to get a script.

Performers’ Theatre Company is also in fundraising mode again with a garage sale taking place at 69 Main Street, Sackville for four Saturday mornings from April 14–May 5. Many items will be on sale at great prices. Doors will be open from 9 a.m.-12 noon.

The company’s AGM will be held on April 30 starting at 7 p.m. This will again be held at 69 Main Street, Sackville and anyone is welcome to attend.

Those interested in learning more about the company with a view to joining, are especially welcome. Refreshments will be available following the meeting with a chance to chat with members of the company.
