Joseph Wayne Morley Googoo, 48, of South Park Street, Halifax, is charged with assault and causing a disturbance by arguing and fighting in hallway.
The offences occurred at the Hampton Inn, located in Membertou, on June 17.
Googoo, a former chief of the Waycobah First Nation, is now to return to provincial court Oct. 30 for update on his progress in the program.
The restorative justice program is an alternative to the regular court process. The program brings together all sides to discuss what occurred and what would be the most appropriate sentencing.
Among the conditions of his release, Googoo is to stay away from the Hampton Inn and the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.
He is to have no contact with the complainant and is to refrain from alcohol and drugs not prescribed him by a doctor.
