Nova Scotia RCMP officer killed in traffic collision near Memramcook, NB

MEMRAMCOOK, N.B. – A member of the Nova Scotia RCMP has died following a collision near Memramcook, N.B.

On Sept. 12, 2017, shortly after 6 p.m., New Brunswick RCMP received a call regarding a traffic collision in the east bound lane of Highway 2.

Preliminary investigation has determined the RCMP member stopped to assist two people in an SUV in changing a tire when a utility van collided with his police car and the SUV. The 35-year-old male RCMP officer died at the scene. The two people with the SUV were taken to hospital.

The New Brunswick RCMP closed Highway 2 at the 480-kilometre mark in Memramcook Tuesday evening following a three-vehicle collison that resulted in the death of an RCMP officer from Nova Scotia. Traffic was being diverted until around 8 a.m. this morning when police announced the highway had been re-opened.

The driver of the van was also taken to hospital. He was treated and taken into police custody.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency crews attended the scene. The road reopened around 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 13.

The investigation is continuing.
