The Titans travelled to Hampton to take on their conference rivals, the Huskies, Thursday night. TRHS came out fast and took a bite out of the Huskies, winning 4-0 by playing with confidence and discipline. Eddie de Jesus was a wall, earning a shutout, and the defensivee core of captain Jack Estabrooks, Ben Kummer, and rookies Jacob Estabrooks, Kyle Trenholm, and Alex Hall kept the Huskies in check and to the outside. It was a total team effort, with Jeff Lafford, Seth Smith, Jack Estabrooks and Alex Hall all getting tallies, with two assists going to Blair Estabrooks and singles to Trenholm, Tyler Long and Ryan Brown. A steady diet of heavy forchecking by the likes of Jared Prescott and Zach Lloyd frustrated the Huskies all night. Hampton High was supposed to be in Sackville Friday night but was riddled with illness and injuries, so that game will be played at a later date.
Saturday night told a different story.
The Saint Malachy’s Saints AAA of the Saint John area came to town, this being the first match of the two teams. The Titans roared out to a 3-0 lead at the first intermission only to fall asleep at the wheel and blow the lead, taking a 7-4 drubbing. With questionable officiating, the Titans lost their composure and perhaps overconfidence led to the collapse. The only bright spot was a gorgeous snipe by Spencer Acton, with helpers from Prescott, Long and Jack Estabrooks. Assists went to Andrew Steele and Brown. Sam Tower suffered the shellacking in net. All in all it was a learning experience in not being over confident and thinking you can win a game playing 20 minutes.
The Titans are now 11-2-1-1 on the season. Kennebacasis Valley High is in town Saturday night, with game time at 6 p.m. at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre. All Sackville minor hockey mites and novice players wearing their team jerseys get in for free for this game. The boys then travel to St. Stephen on Sunday to take on the Spartans.
The Chase the Ace is approaching $800, and the only way to win it is to come down and cheer on your Titans.
