BRIDGETOWN, NS - After a stretch without any local law offices following the recent retirements of David Cottenden QC and John Cameron QC, Bridgetown will see a new firm open its doors May 4.
Hillman Law will be located at 10 Queen Street, Bridgetown, in the former Integrity Printing location. It will be a general practice firm covering various areas of law, including personal injury, wills and estate, real estate, small business, family law, and notary public services.
The firm is owned by John Hillman, a Dalhousie Law School graduate who recently moved to Bridgetown after completing his articling year at Kimball Law in Wolfville. He is joined by his fiancée, Shannon Bridger, who will take on the roles of receptionist and legal assistant.
“Our goal is to build a true, traditional community law firm,” said Hillman. “We are happy to make house calls when clients have trouble getting to our office. Our initial consultations are always free. We want everyone to feel comfortable reaching out to us whenever a legal issue comes up.”
Long-held Dream
The opening in Bridgetown is the realization of a long-held dream for the couple.
“When John was in law school, we were crammed into a tiny basement bachelor apartment in downtown Halifax that was so packed full of books that we barely had room to breathe,” Bridger said. “We used to browse Bridgetown real estate ads longingly and talk about how amazing it would be to settle down and enjoy the lifestyle advantages of such a beautiful community.”
Within two days of Hilman’s introductory post on the Bridgetown community Facebook group, more than 100 people had liked the Hillman Law Facebook page, and friendly neighbours were pulling the couple aside all over town to welcome them to the area.
“The warmth and support that everyone has shown us is really overwhelming,” Bridger said. “We’re so thrilled to settle down here, and we hope we can contribute some more positive energy to this amazing community.”
