AULAC, N.B. – Fort Beausejour is celebrating two significant holidays with kids activities, cake and special demonstrations.

On New Brunswick Day (Aug. 7) the fort will see flying kites demonstrated by Dieppe Kite International. The organization will be hosting its own festival in Dieppe, N.B., from Aug. 10 to 14.
For National Acadian Day (Aug. 15) from 1 to 3 p.m. visitors can make a noisemaker and then participate in a Tintamarre, which is the Acadian practice of parading around the community with homemade instruments.
Parks Canada is also celebrating “Fab Forts Weekend” from Aug. 19 to 20 to commemorate the role of forts in Canada’s history. Children activities will be available.
Currently there is a special exhibit of medals and pins, and from Aug. 14 to 27 there will be an exhibit of jewelry and accessories.
In September the fort will be holding Canada 150 events and activities, which will include live music and guest speakers. Details are to come on these events.
Ongoing are self-guided tours, GPS-based tours and the Xplorers program for children. Admission to this fort and all other national parks and historic sites is free this year.
“We invite people to stroll on the grounds and visit the fort’s semi-restored, semi-stabilized ruins of both the French and British periods,” said Juliette Bulmer, Fort Beausejour interpretation officer coordinator.
