The presentation will take place at 2 p.m., followed by an unveiling of plaques at the Sackville Arts Wall location along Main Street between Cranewood and St. Paul’s Anglican Church.  Thaddeus Holownia will be inducted in the Visual Arts category, Mary Connelly as an Arts Builder, and Julie Doiron and a Performing Artist.
Distinguished photographer Thaddeus Holownia joined Mount Allison’s Fine Arts department in 1977 to launch the photography program.  Since then, his work has appeared in more than 80 solo and group exhibitions at galleries across Canada and as far afield as New York, Mexico City, Tokyo, Prague, Hamburg, and Berlin.  In 2017, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia honoured him with a retrospective exhibition documenting 40 years of creative accomplishments.
Mary Connelly studied music in Sackville from 1941 to 1945, then taught music in area schools from 1962 to 1968. In 1989 she returned to Sackville, where, as an imaginative teacher, she helped her students discover music as a living form of expression. As an accompanist and mentor, she urged them to dig ever deeper for meaning and nuance.  As a church organist and choral conductor, she helped countless individuals to feel connected with the community at large.
Living in Sackville since 1996, Julie Doiron’s musical ambitions took flight in 1990 with the influential alternative-rock band, Eric’s Trip. Her efforts have attracted national attention when the 1999 release of  “Julie Doiron and the Wooden Stars,” won the Juno Award for Album of the Year in 2000. Additional albums followed, and a second Juno nomination followed in 2010 for “I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day.”
Initiated in 2009 to be a lasting legacy of Sackville’s national designation as one of Canada’s Cultural Capitals, individuals and groups of individuals representing one of four categories: literary, visual, performing, and arts builders can be nominated every second year.  The three new inductees will bring the total number recognized to sixteen.
