ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — More accolades abound for St. John’s writer Michael Crummey.
His latest work “The Innocents” has been chosen as a finalist in the fiction category for the Governor General’s Literary Awards (GGBooks).
Joining Crummey as a finalist for this award are Marianne Micros for “Eye”, Joan Thomas for “Five Wives”, K.D. Miller for “Late Breaking”, and Cary Fagan for “The Student”.
The book is Newfoundland centric and features queer content. In addition, the novel is on the Writers’ Trust shortlist and the Giller Prize shortlist.
The winners will be announced at gg.books.ca on Oct. 29 and the winners will be celebrated on Dec. 12 by Gov.-Gen Julie Payette during a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
Each winner will get $25,000, with the publisher receiving $3,000 to promote the winning book. Finalists each receive $1,000.
