Salvation Army program benefiting students from India arriving in Cape Breton without warm clothes

Heidi Hicks, manager of the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Prince Street, Sydney, hangs coats on one of numerous racks of winter clothing offered for free as part of their clothe-a-family program. Michelle Walker, also a manager at the thrift shop, said the clothes are offered to anyone in need but this past year the program has been used by Cape Breton University students from India, who arrive in the cold Cape Breton weather without proper clothing and limited money. The program is offered during the colder months in conjunction with the Mayflower Dental Group. People are invited to drop off good used winter clothing for adults or children at the Mayflower Dental office in Sydney, Riverside Dental in Sydney River, Mayflower Dental in North Sydney, Dr. Louise MacLeod's dental office in North Sydney, or at the thrift shop. The donations are available to anyone in need by simply showing their health card or student ID. Sharon Montgomery-Dupe/Cape Breton Post
