SACKVILLE, N.B. - The doors of Marshview Middle School will likely close over the next couple of years after a decision came down tonight from the District Education Council (DEC).
Members of the DEC voted 10-1 in favour of a motion brought forward that recommends the closure of Marshview. The motion also calls for a building assessment to be done on Salem Elementary School to consider giving it a midlife upgrade and expanding the space for a K-8 school. If that option isn't viable, and the 200-plus extra students from Marshview aren't able to fit into an upgraded Salem, the DEC has recommended building a new K-8 school. Tantramar Regional High School will remain as is.
This recommendation from the DEC will be forwarded to the Minister of Education for a final decision.
More to come, including reactions from Salem principal Ada Phinney, TRHS principal Susan Lafford and Sackville Schools 2020 member Michael Fox. . .
