BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I.
A vehicle collided with an RCMP cruiser on Confederation Bridge Saturday, and the P.E.I. driver was arrested for impaired driving.
The incident occurred when the East Prince RCMP were responding to a report of a possible impaired driver who was approaching the Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick.
When the police units were on the bridge, they were met by the suspected vehicle which abruptly turned into the oncoming lane of traffic causing a minor collision with a police car.
An officer was then able to get the vehicle stopped.
The driver, a 27-year-old woman from Oyster Bed, was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was transported to the East Prince RCMP detachment. She provided breath samples that were twice the legal limit.
She is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle over 80-km speed limit on the bridge. She is scheduled to appear in Summerside Provincial Court on Jan. 18, 2018, to answer to the charges.
