Three people died after a three-vehicle crash Saturday on Highway 104 in Dagger Woods, just east of Antigonish.

RCMP responded to the collision shortly before 4 p.m.

Two women from Victoria County, ages 67 and 36, who were travelling in a 2006 Honda Civic were pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said Sunday.

Two occupants of the second vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, were transported to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish by paramedics. One of the occupants, a 60-year-old woman from Antigonish County, died at the hospital, while the other person remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One of two people in the third vehicle, a 2013 Ford F-150, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene. The highway was closed until almost 10 p.m. while investigators processed the scene, with traffic detoured onto Dagger Woods Road.

Much of the province received heavy rain Saturday, but an RCMP spokesman said he was unable to confirm the weather conditions at the time of the crash.

“This would be one factor looked at,” Cpl. Dal Hutchinson said. “As well, mechanical inspections will be conducted and statements from witnesses will be reviewed.”
